In my sports mad youth I participated in Gymnastics, Dancing, Swimming, Waterskiing, Diving, Athletics, Surf Life Saving, Kayaking and Hockey. Hockey is my major passion. I currently play in the Premier Grade for East Coast Bays Hockey Club and have played at representative level. I was also lucky enough to represent NZ in Kayaking at the World Marathon Champs in 2013. Although I’m secretly proud to be a born and bred Jaffa, I’m a massive water baby so never miss an opportunity to head out of Auckland to spend time at some of NZ's best beaches. One of my favourites is Ocean Beach in Whangarei Heads, where I patrol as a Lifeguard. I’m super excited to be a clinical Year Rep for AUSMS, as I have always admired the work sports docs do! Particularly in helping NZ athletes of all ages and abilities achieve their goals and dreams, not only by helping them recover from injuries but also by helping them to reach their full potential both physically and psychologically.

I grew up in Whakatane and spent the majority my time outdoors mountain biking, surfing or kicking a ball around with mates. Initially I played rugby but when I realised I was destined to stay a skinny white boy I moved on to football and athletics in the interest of self preservation! When I reached my teenage years I found a passion for triathlon and managed to represent New Zealand Internationally as a junior. I was also fortunate enough to race triathlon for a club team in Europe in 2015, seeing many of the amazing sights and cities along the way. Competitive racing also brought with it many injuries, the worst of which being compartment syndrome resulting in corrective surgery. I’ve had my fair share of time on the physio table and with the Sports Docs! I have a previous degree in physiotherapy, which has allowed me to work closely with rugby teams, netball teams and many individual athletes.Through both my sporting and professional career paths I’ve developed a keen interest in sports medicine and am excited to be part of AUSMS to hopefully learn more about this specialty and spark this interest in others.

Growing up I decided to play as many sports as I could, including hockey, netball, touch rugby, volleyball and cricket. I eventually settled on hockey and have played at a representative level from U13’s to U21’s and now play in the premier team for North Shore United as well as the National Hockey League team for Capital. Following high school, I earned a scholarship to play at Saint Joseph’s University in Philadelphia where I learnt a huge amount about university sports and the work of sports physicians in America. My interest in sports medicine has since grown throughout the many injuries I have come across during my sporting career (including a ruptured ACL, Osgood Schlatter Disease and multiple concussions) as well as my experience overseas. I am super excited to be a part of the AUSMS exec team and can’t wait to promote the awesome area of sports medicine!

Born and bred in the Far North, I spent most of my childhood outside playing sports and riding horses. After school, I studied physiotherapy and since have been living between Australia and Sweden, working in physiotherapy and research. I have a huge interest in sports and sports medicine both as a participant and from the sideline. As an individual, I've completed a number of marathons/ultramarathons and skyraces between 50-90km as well as participating socially in team sports every chance I get. Professionally, I've worked with sports teams and recently had the chance to gain more experience working Swedish 7s and rugby union. I'm looking forward to progressing my sports medicine career as a physiotherapist and as a medical student and helping others do the same our 2017 AUSMS events and initiatives.

I have a huge love of sports, physical activity and adventure. Growing up in Wellington I played representative Basketball and Cricket on both the national and international stage. Pursuing both sports concurrently placed a high training load on my growing body, resulting in a bout of serious injuries that saw me on the orthopedic surgeons table multiple times, and ultimately put an end to my cricketing aspirations. Forced to find my fitness fix elsewhere, I turned to road cycling and mountain biking and now enjoy both competing and adventuring on two wheels! These experiences have sparked a deep interest in musculoskeletal anatomy and sports physiology, along with injury prevention, management, rehabilitation and surgical intervention. More importantly, I discovered how sports medicine can influence people’s lives at multiple levels, such as one’s physical, social and mental well-being. I am incredibly excited about learning, researching and one day delivering sports medicine in a holistic manner, and also being part of the amazing AUSMS team!

Growing up in the small town of Blenheim, it was not uncommon for kids to play in every sports team just to try and make up the numbers. I grew to love each discipline, however was encouraged to stick and develop my skills in tennis and hockey when I reached high school, which I am still playing today. I am super interested in the practice of sports medicine, and the ultimate dream would be to work as Team Doctor on the sidelines of the NBA courts. I’m stoked to be one of the third year reps for this year and can’t wait to see what the year holds for AUSMS.

I am excited to be a part of AUSMS executives for 2018. A little about me, I come from the Far north of New Zealand and spent the majority of my childhood dancing ballet, running and boogie boarding at the beach. I am postgraduate student with a BHs (physiotherapy) that has just joined the MBChB degree here at UOA. I have experience working as a physiotherapist in a private practice and was involved in sideline sport physiotherapy for both regional and provincial rugby teams. I currently work as part of the Musculoskeletal Outpatient Team at Starship Children’s Hospital. My interest areas of medicine are musculoskeletal and orthopaedic injuries/conditions and how these impact children’s ability to participate in sport. Being a part of The Auckland University Sports Medicine Society is a unique opportunity to gain further insight into an exciting specialty of medicine!

Born and raised in Hamilton, sport and the outdoors has played a massive part in my life from day one and has led me to compete in international level football, national level golf, as well as socially competing in running, cricket and athletics.
I am now a six year medical student at The University of Auckland and, together with Scotty and Bhav, founded AUSMS in 2013 to promote the relatively young field of sports medicine to all University of Auckland students - whether you're a dietician, doctor, sports scientist, or psychologist in training, we would love to have you join us as we collectively advance our knowledge in this exciting field through hands-on workshops, seminars, field experiences, research presentations and more. We look forward to meeting you at some of these events.
