27th March: AUSMS Presents: Dr Mark Fulcher
Time: 5:15 PM - 6:30 PM
Location: Room 501-110, University of Auckland, Grafton Campus
AUSMS are delighted to host Dr Mark Fulcher, who will be talking about his amazing experiences as a sports physician and the road he took to get to where he is today.
Mark is one of the leading sports medicine physicians working out of Axis Sports Medicine. He is the Medical Director at New Zealand Football and is currently the doctor for the All Whites and Football Ferns, joining the latter for their Rio 2016 Olympic Campaign. Mark is also the former team doctor for the Silver Ferns and is currently working with the Northern Mystics. Mark has worked closely with ACC and is part of their Sports Collaboration Group which recently released the Concussion Service Guidelines for medical providers in NZ. He has a wealth of knowledge!
Dr Fulcher gave us an awesome and honest presentation about life as a sports doctor, and some amazing insights into his interest in injury prevention. In addition to that, Dr Fulcher discussed the issue of sudden cardiac arrest among athletes, and how he is striving to ensure that all football clubs around the country have access to an AED, and that an action plan is in place for club members to follow should this happen to a player. We would like to thank Dr Fulcher for his time, and hope to have him back to speak in the future!
